Road to University: Helping Young People in Congo-Brazzaville Build a Brighter Future.

The transition from secondary school to university is one of the most important milestones in a young person's life. Yet every year, thousands of students in Congo-Brazzaville leave school without the guidance they need to make informed decisions about their future.

Many are unsure which degree programmes lead to real career opportunities, how the university system works, or where they can find financial support to continue their education. Too often, talent is held back simply because young people lack access to reliable information.

At the Cornish Views Education Foundation (CVEF), we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to make informed choices about their future.

Bringing Expert Guidance to Nkayi

On 20 June 2026, CVEF partnered with the SARIS Foundation to host a landmark University and Career Guidance Day in Nkayi under the theme:

"Your future begins with the right choices."

More than 200 final-year sixth form students gathered at the Melen Park Hotel to hear directly from education professionals, university representatives and technical training providers about the opportunities available after graduation.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Mr Chancel Mvoula, President of the SARIS Foundation, before CVEF's education specialists led a series of practical workshops designed to help students navigate the next stage of their academic journey.

Understanding Higher Education

Many students are the first in their families to consider university, making guidance particularly valuable.

During the sessions, CVEF experts explained:

  • How the Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate (LMD) university system works.

  • The faculties, schools and institutes available at Congo's two main public universities.

  • Admission procedures and entry requirements.

  • Tuition costs and associated expenses.

  • Eligibility criteria for national student scholarships.

Students also received practical advice on choosing recognised private institutions accredited by both the Ministry of Higher Education and the African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education (CAMES), helping them avoid qualifications that may not be officially recognised.

Preparing Students for University Life

Choosing a university is only the first step. CVEF also shared practical information about student life, including accommodation, campus facilities and transport options, helping students develop realistic expectations and prepare for a successful transition into higher education.

By equipping young people with this knowledge before they arrive on campus, we hope to reduce uncertainty and improve student success.

Looking Beyond Borders

One of the most popular sessions focused on opportunities beyond Congo-Brazzaville. Led by Wesley Samba, CVEF introduced students to international scholarship pathways, including guidance on academic excellence, application processes and opportunities available through organisations such as Campus France. For many attendees, this was their first introduction to studying abroad as an achievable goal.

Learning Without Limits

Not every student has immediate access to university or the financial resources to continue their studies. To demonstrate that learning does not stop after sixth form, CVEF introduced students to a range of free online learning platforms offering courses in areas including:

  • Computer programming

  • Project management

  • Digital marketing

  • Professional development

  • Industry-recognised certifications

These resources enable motivated students to continue building valuable skills regardless of their location or financial circumstances.

Connecting Students with Training Providers

The event also brought together respected private and technical education providers from across the country, giving students the opportunity to explore vocational and professional pathways alongside traditional university degrees. Representatives showcased programmes in engineering, business, technology and technical skills, demonstrating that there are multiple routes to successful and rewarding careers.

A Community Effort

The success of the day was made possible through strong partnerships. We are grateful to the SARIS Foundation for co-organising the event and to Globaline, whose generous support in providing refreshments for participants demonstrated that investing in young people is a shared responsibility.

Building Futures Through Education

Events like this are about much more than university admissions. They are about giving young people the confidence, knowledge and practical tools to shape their own futures.

At CVEF, we believe that informed students make better decisions, stronger communities and brighter futures. Every child deserves access to guidance, opportunity and hope. As the French philosopher Maurice Blondel famously said:

"The future is not something we predict; it is something we prepare for."

Together with our partners and supporters, we are helping the next generation prepare for that future.

Thank you for standing with CVEF as we continue to empower young people across Congo-Brazzaville through education.
